Great Bend, Ks - Day 25

Hi from Great Bend, Ks,
Another super day in the saddle!!!! We started very early due to impending heat and it was hot, but not nearly as oppressive as the two days when we did centuries! Directions again were fairly simple – leave out of hotel onto Rt 50 then to Rt 56 and follow to Great Bend and into hotel!
We passed through many small towns and some of them were just plain little villages. We went through the town of Spearville, Offerle, and Kinsley before the first SAG at mile 36.6.

At one point, we passed another wind farm with many windmills, but at least they weren’t moving too much!

At this stop there was an old locomotive that a bunch of us climbed on for a photo op. We also went through a SOD house museum with lots of antiques.

This sign was there and shows the midpoint across the USA – however, it isn’t the midpoint of our journey because we are headed northeast and should hit our midpoint in the next couple of days. It amazes me to look at how far we have come on the map!!! Each day is a new adventure and there is nothing like being on vacation and having someone else doing all of the worrying and planning for you!

This is a picture of a group of friendly horses who all perked up their ears when I whistled as I went by. I rode a long time by myself today and it was fun just reflecting and enjoying the scenery. Anyone who likes to ride all day on the flat would have enjoyed the ride, however, we didn’t have a very wide shoulder – most vehicles gave us wide berth.

Next we came to a little town of Garfield with a park right at the edge of town with this little church on the property. The church is a memorial to a Congregational Church that was awarded a bell by then Congressman Garfield and later President Garfield – there are two pews and an altar inside.

Next is a picture of an antique shop along the way – people here in Kansas are really friendly and all very interested in our trip! Dinner at Montana Mike’s again – food was great!

Today we say a sad goodbye to our dear friend and mechanic, Sean!! He has been such an asset to our adventure and will be sorely missed. However, Sean just graduated from college and has a 3 month European adventure that was planned before he was hired by ABB. We wish you luck in your efforts to become President by 2020 and hope we will continue to hear from you! Thanks Sean!!

Thank God for the safety, health, and energy!

  2. Great pictures! It looks like you are still going strong. Your riding around here is going to be nothing when you get back!

  3. What? No hurrah, today? Or is it implied that the hurrah goes to your mechanic? Keep it up!

  4. Hello Carole from the Wilson family. Sounds like things are going great for you. We are holding down the home front for now. Looking to head to PA next week with a combined business trip for Steve. Will stop in on Dad( he's on his way back from MA with Sheldon today) and Evelyn for a night or two. Will pick some blueberries, hopefully. Then the following weekend to try and catch space launch in FL and then back to PA for wedding. Riding a bike across country seems like it would be a whole lot simpler at this point. And definitely easier than keeping 4 teenagers fed this summer. Enjoy the scenerey!!! Keep truckin'. Judy
