Lovelock, Nv - Day 6

Lovelock, Nv
Hello from the little town of Lovelock, Nv. – reminds me of Biglerville – one stop light and all of the locals know that we are here. We are staying in a hotel that has a 24 hour casino, but no time for that!!

We started the day with breakfast at Denny’s with a Grand Slam meal – way too much food for me, but you have to eat. We left town and headed for Interstate 80 – the first picture was taken before we entered the Interstate. I was somewhat nervous the first 15 miles due to lots of trucks, piggybacks and triple backs – we also had rumble strips on the side of the road – finally around 20 miles I was able to settle in and follow the cue sheet which mainly said 80 miles on the Interstate – we had been warned about any bad spots on the shoulder and really had a pleasant ride to the first rest stop – mile 32.
Again we were treated to all kinds of fun foods and carbs – one of the great features of this ride is that I can eat all of the fun foods that I don’t buy at home. They buy a wonderful dried fruit and nut mix that has dried mangos, strawberries, kiwis, walnuts, almonds, raisins, and peanuts. Several fresh fruits – green grapes, bananas, apples, and oranges. We also so lots of choices of granola bars. At the second stop today we had the hugest sweet cherries I have ever seen and boy were they ever good!! Arlene, you were right!!
Back on the road and go east until next rest stop at mile 67 – I did the fastest 50 I have ever done – 3:23 followed by the fastest 91 miles – average 13.5 which is excellent for me! There are a couple of riders that ride my pace and we are usually the last in, but it sure is fun!! Today Dave Moore was with me and three other very nice men too – everyone is looking out for me. We stopped on the main street in Lovelock to have our bottle of chocolate milk for recovery drink. Tonight I have a little problem with cramping in my left calf – so I bought some tonic water and hope I don’t wake up screaming in the middle of the night with a Charlie horse.Dinner tonight was at the Coyote Café and they had quite a spread for us – everything homemade – broasted chicken, salad, homemade rolls, string beans, and grilled potatoes with homemade bread pudding for dessert! We had to walk back which was nice since the food was so……..goood!!

Scenery all day today was mountains to our left and our right – no green, lots of sage brush and straight road ahead!! Does anyone know what the white stuff is?? Snow?? Tomorrow will be more of the same – 72 miles. Remember if you open my map, you can click on “terrain” and it will show you what kind of terrain we are riding on. I really appreciate all of the comments and well wishes – they are quite uplifting!! David, my Christmas lights up?!?!?!?
Today's hurrah goes to Arlene for all of her support and the introduction to tonic water for cramping!!
Thank God for the safety, health, and energy!!

Keep conusming all those complex carbs! Have you had any encounters with unusual wildlife, ie: lions, tigers, or bears! Snakes, scorpions, moose? Would love to hear about any such encounters!

  5. I was having trouble posting, so that's the reason for previous shout out. Anyway, sounds like things are going well for you, keep up the good work! Isn't it great seeing snow in June. We have pictures of us sledding last year when we were in Colorado.
We got up at 1:30 AM this morning for the shuttle launch and it was scrapped!! What a bummer! Hopefully, it will go off on Wednesday! If not, we may have to make another trip down here again in Florida, oh what a shame!
Still thinking about meeting you in mid July. Keep up the good work!
Look out for the wildlife!!! Let me know if you get to see the marmots.
